It has been reported that large parts of the internet have struggled to load this afternoon, possibly due to an issue at Cloudflare.
Cloudflare has confirmed an issue is ongoing and it has already seen some services recover, but that customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as it tries to fix the problem.
The company said online that it is investigating the issue, posting on its Cloudflare System Status page: “Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate. More updates to follow shortly.”
Visitors to websites like X (formerly Twitter) and film reviewing site Letterboxd have seen an error message that indicated Cloudflare issues were the cause, according to The Independent.
Ironically, Down Detector – the site that monitors outages – was also hit by technical problems.
Cloudflare is a US company that provides content delivery network services ,cybersecurity, DDOs and wide area network services.
In the last 24 hours, it was announced that Cloudflare was set to acquire the AI platform Replicate. As part of the deal, the company aims to transform Cloudflare Workers into a leading platform for AI applications , with developers expecting to soon have access to more than 50,000 AI models (LLMs).
“Bringing Replicate’s tools into Cloudflare will continue to make our Developer Platform the best place on the Internet to build and deploy any AI or agentic workflow,” Cloudflare’s Rita Kozlov and Ben Firshman posted to the Cloudflare blog on Monday.
Cloudflare responded to Capacity’s request for comment, saying: “We saw a spike in unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare’s services beginning at 11:20 UTC. That caused some traffic passing through Cloudflare’s network to experience errors. We do not yet know the cause of the spike in unusual traffic. We are all hands on deck to make sure all traffic is served without errors. After that, we will turn our attention to investigating the cause of the unusual spike in traffic.
